If you're wearing tired of the repetitive ballet structure you've found yourself stuck in during lockdown, or fancy grabbing your kitchen top and giving ballet a go for the first time, Dior might have your answer
Acclaimed fashion house Christian Dior has released three intimate masterclass videos via their Instagram and YouTube channels with some of their favourite ballet dancers hosting. Enlisting the help of Sébastien Bertaud, Friedemann Vogel and Eleonora Abbagnato, Germain Louvet leads a triad of classes which are all under 30 minutes long. The impossible dream of having a class with principal dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet and the Stuttgart Ballet is now coming true.
The classes involve a warm-up and an improvisation workshop, as well as learning movements in a lesson environment. Despite the videos being in French, there are English subtitles available too, so don't be put off by the language barrier.
The beauty of a pre-recorded class is the rare opportunity to pause a teacher and take the guidance at your own speed. With this feature, it means all abilities can join in and removed is the possible judgement and scrutiny found in some regular classes.
Dior and ballet have been intertwined recently with creative director and designer Maria Grazia Chiuri's aid with costumes for Bertaud's 2019 ballets Nuit Blanche and Utopia. Thankfully, there are no uniform rules in this solitary performance, so come how you wish, socks or shoes – no one has to know.
